ABOUT A YURT

What do you need to know before you make an order?

Mongolian Traditional yurt has been used for thousands of years as a dwelling, dating back in 1271, Marco Polo documented our yurt when he visited in Mongolia.

Mongolian people still live in the yurt, in fact, more than half Mongolian (61%) live in the yurt (National Geographic.org). Mongolian people experience all kind of weather conditions which they face a flaming hot summer (over 40C) and freezing cold winter (below -40C) while they live in the yurt.

Why do you need to take care of your yurt?

Mongolian people use 1 or 2 yurts during their lifetime by fixing & mending some parts if needed to. However, it does not mean you can or expect to use a yurt for the same period without willing to do the same work. As a yurt which belongs to a tent family, you should expect to take care of it constantly as soon as the yurt is up. Please, think thoroughly before putting your order, ‘’a yurt is not a house’’

Although, JustYurt ltd has been tirelessly updating their yurt’s materials to fit in the foreign climate conditions the yurt still requires some care & treatments because it still uses materials (wood & fabrics) which is vulnerable to certain weather conditions.

JustYurt ltd makes Authentic Mongolian yurt which we updated most of its components to be as resistant as possible in Western climate, we can proudly say that our yurts made with the highest quality materials in the market. (We are repeating this statement because some people assume that our yurts are less quality due to their pricing. But it is not true, as our mission is ‘’ To supply our products with the lowest price possible which means we want to introduce a part of Mongolian culture to foreign countries as wide as possible’’)

So, what do you need to do to protect your yurt?

As a yurt that consists of 2 main materials (wood & fabrics), you need to apply treatments over the external parts of the yurt.

  • Please, use weather-resistant treatments for wooden parts & as well as for fabrics at least once a year. Our recommendations: for fabrics: use Ultramar treatments or ‘’Fabsil’’ products and for the wooden parts: use ‘’Epoxy’’ wooden sealing and other brands’ weather protection.

  • Please, heat the yurt regularly when you are using the yurt, use a door & crown covers efficiently, close the covers when it is raining, snowing, and windy, open the covers when it is a hot & sunny day.

  • Store the yurt in a dry place if it is not used, do not leave the yurt empty when you are not using & heating it. The place should not have any holes or breakages (it will protect the yurt from water leakage and small animals like a mouse)

  • Please, lift up the skirt of the yurt (tuck it in the bottom of the straps) when it is a sunny & dry day.

  • Use an extra protective cover over the roof which should be placed underneath the rain cover if the yurt will be up for more than 3 months or during the rainy season. We recommend ‘’Pro Clima Solitex Roof Membrane’’ or Polytex extra layer

  • Check the yurt regularly, watch out for bird droppings, leaves & branches, rain streaks & green deposits of algae. Clean them as soon as you saw some unwanted event.

  • Use ‘’enzymes’’ for canvas cleaning. It is a 100% organic liquid cleanser that is a long-lasting, safe cleaner for atmospheric pollution and algae and grease applicable on all external surfaces. It is safe for animals and plants, 100% biodegradable.

  • For an extra protection perspective, apply a fire protection product on the inner cover.
