There are a wide range of weather treatments in market for yurts and tents' fabric. In this blog, I would like to write about ''Fabsil'' water repellent which most of our customers use.
You can choose Fabsil-Universal Protector or Fabsil Gold, both products work well on our yurts as they have similar protective ingredients.
Only differences are : Fabsil-Universal Protector has a lower concentration of active ingredients and contains UV inhibitor.
On the other hand, Fabsil Gold contains 5 times higher concentration of active elements but not UV inhibitor. It is most suitable for canvas, fabrics which will be outside all year round due to its durability.
Before you apply the product, make sure the object is clean and dry, have enough drying time before getting exposure to any moisture. Protect any paint work or glasses as the liquid would make a mark when it dries. Excess ''Fabsil'' should be removed immediately, use some benzine if necessary.
How much ''Fabsil'' would you need depends on the fabric's thickness and material. We use a can of 5l ''Fabsil'' on the external side of the 6.2m diameter yurt's which if the yurt will be up all year round you need at least 3 cans of 5l ''Fabsil'' (one for inner side of the rain cover, one is for external side of the rain cover and the other one is for the external side of the outer layer)
How long will ''Fabsil'' take to dry will depend on the fabrics weight as well!!! Generally, our recommendation is let the product dry for at least 2 hours.
Choosing a perfect day to use ''Fabsil''. Ideally, use ''Fabsil'' on a not too sunny day as if it is a too hot the product would not get absorbed properly (you should not use ''Fabsil'' on a rainy day)
